Procedures Observations
  1. Place a few crystals of Copper (II) Nitrate, Cu(NO3)2 in a test tube.
    What do you observe?

  2. Holding the test tube with a test tube holder, heat SLOWLY for 2 minutes while moving the test tube back and forth through the flame.
    What do you observe?

  3. Remove the test tube from the flame and place it in a test tube rack to cool.
    What do you observe?

  4. When the test tube is cool to the touch, add about 3 drops of dilute nitric acid, HNO3.
    What do you observe?

  5. Reheat the test tube SLOWLY for 2 minutes.
    What do you observe?

  6. When cool, pour contents of test tube into waste jar provided. Rinse test tube with water and return equipment to tray.
